Man Utd veteran insists players want to bounce back after loss to Newcastle

Manchester United captain Michael Carrick has insisted that his teammates all wish to bounce back from the frustrating loss they suffered at the hands of Newcastle.

The result ended 1-0 in the Magpies favour due to them scoring from a free-kick that was conceded by a diving Chris Smalling.

The defender’s bizarre decision to dive has led to large sections of fans calling for him to be sold at the earliest opportunity.

United desperately needed a win vs the Toon Army if they wished to solidify their position as second in the league but now suddenly find that position under threat.

Carrick though has reiterated his team’s desire to put it all behind them by hopefully securing a win vs Huddersfield in the FA Cup fifth round.

According to Manchester United’s official website, Michael told MUTV when asked what the mood in the camp was like: “There is definitely a determination to put it right. You can’t ignore the fact that, when you have a bad result or two, here there is criticism and scrutiny that comes with it.

“You expect it and get used to it. The feeling from me and the lads in general is a determination to get back out there and put it right and bounce back.

“You can’t sit and mope about it. It is what it is and that’s why we play for this club. There is a responsibility to do well and you have to deal with it.”

The Red Devils are certainly expected to reach the latter stages of the FA Cup but to do so they’ll have to beat a stubborn Huddersfield side.

Jose Mourinho’s men put in an incredible shift during January but have started to show worrying signs of inconsistency of late.

Some pundits believe that Alexis Sanchez’s arrival has upset the mood in the camp with skeptics pointing a finger at an unhappy Paul Pogba.

The rumours state that the Frenchman is unhappy that the Chilean has suddenly overtaken him as the key man for Manchester United and is reportedly earning more money too.

However, the rumours are perhaps just an effort to derail the club’s season and it’s up to the players to prove they will not stand for it in the upcoming fixture.
