Jamie Carragher makes claim about his feelings on English teams in UCL

Fair point

Jamie Carragher will see Liverpool side play Porto in the Champions League tonight but has made a claim about other English teams in the Champions League.

The Reds will be looking to progress through to the next round of the top European competition as they target a sixth Champions League.

That isn’t going to be easy with very little shocks in the group stage and many teams to go through first and potentially even another Premier League side.

Though, Anfield legend Jamie Carragher has admitted that deep down, he doesn’t want to see other English teams succeed abroad.

That comes with Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Manchester City all still in the Champions League and all with good chances of progression.

Even though he is a British pundit, he can’t be having any of those sides getting closer to Liverpool’s five Champions League honours.

“We don’t want to get involved in that ourselves, playing a Man United or a Spurs, but I think two others playing each other would help us for top four,” he explained.

“The pressure of it, the press, the media, when you’re playing a rival in the Champions League I think it’s completely different.

“You want to see Premier League teams do well. Listen, I say that, I don’t really want to see them do well, I want to see Liverpool do well!

“I wouldn’t want to see another English team win it. I don’t want them catching up to the five.”

Liverpool boss Klopp makes strange UCL claim ahead of Porto game

While Liverpool are yet to progress past Porto, Jurgen Klopp is already targeting another side.

That is because he has already called out one European giant by claiming they could beat them if drawn in the next round.
