Tottenham swoop for Watford’s Richarlison & Abdoulaye Doucoure

Tottenham & Watford

There’s still more than three months to go before the summer transfer window opens for business.

Yet the tabloid press are addicted to transfer rumours. That’s seen the Sun on Sunday claim that Tottenham are lining up a double swoop for Watford’s Richarlison and Abdoulaye Doucoure at the end of the season.

Before dipping into the details of the Sun’s report, do Spurs really need two more midfielders in their squad?

Lucas Moura, who fills a similar role to Richarlison, has now joined Spurs from PSG. While Doucoure, who has been brilliant in centre-mid for the Hornets, would go from being a starter at Watford to falling behind Mousa Dembele and Eric Dier at Tottenham.

Off the bat it’s unclear how Mauricio Pochettino could integrate Richarlison and Abdoulaye Doucoure into his squad.

Spurs to spend £50 million

Leaving that to one side, however the Sun report the following:

Tottenham boss Poch wants support for Harry Kane and has been impressed by £30m-rated Richarlison in his first Premier League season.

Doucoure, signed for £4.5m from Rennes, has looked good in central midfield since returning from a loan at Granada two seasons ago.

The Frenchman, 25, is yet to agree to a new Hornets deal and Spurs are ready to move for him.

Looking from the outside, the Sun’s report seems intent on scaring Watford into trying to lock down their star players.

The red-top also fail to circulate Rcharlison’s comments to the Evening Standard this weekend about his future at Vicarage Road. The Brazilian said:

In the future you never know but I leave all things like that up to my agents. At the moment my head is completely in Watford.

I am not thinking about anything else and I want to help the team get as far as possible in the league.
