Revealed: The reason Alvaro Morata snubbed a move to Barcelona

Conte

Alvaro Morata could have moved to Barcelona last summer, but instead decided to make a move to Chelsea according to Don Balon.

The La Liga side were keen on him, and had offered an £88 million package for him – but he wanted to link up with former manager Antonio Conte again – hence the move to Chelsea.

Morata was also concerned he wouldn’t get as much game time at  Barcelona – and didn’t seem to think money was an issue, so took the chance to move to the Premier League and link up with Conte again, who he made clear was rthe number one reason for his arrival.

Morata said: “I am very conscious of that [working with Conte again].

“He bet on me for Juventus but left before I arrived – then he wanted me at Chelsea come what may.

“He knows me better than I could imagine, I am sure, and that is important – it motivates you to work hard and train well.

“I feel indebted to him because he is the coach that most trusted in me, most wanted me.”

Real Madrid

The player has also made it very clear he wants to go back to Real Madrid at some point in his career, and has said that while he is happy at Chelsea he wants to make sure the sky is the limit when it comes to his career, and that a return one day could be on the cards.

Of course, that could not happen if he played for Barcelona, and Morata would have been aware of that when the opportunity to sign for them came up last summer – with many people thinking he was actually set for a move to Old Trafford to link up with former Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho.
