Pundit claims Madrid star to Man Utd is 'not happening'

ESPN FC pundit Craig Burley has claimed that Real Madrid star Raphael Varane will definitely not be moving to Manchester United.

The Frenchman has been heavily linked with Jose Mourinho’s side but no move has transpired as of yet as it all remains to be just rumours.

The Portuguese manager favoured Varane during his stint at Madrid and there are reports that say he’s hoping to reunite with his former player.

The centre-back may be targeted due to rumours that United are willing to move on Phil Jones and/or Chris Smalling after their poor performances of late.

Burley however, believes there’s absolutely no chance that the transfer will happen and has pointed to Real’s stature as a reason.

According to Express, Craig said to ESPN FC: “Forget it. Why would you leave Real Madrid to go to Man United? Have you seen them play?

“Honestly, why would you go to that team at the moment from Real Madrid? Not happening.”

Raphael has a very capable manager to learn from at the Spanish capital in fellow Frenchman Zinedine Zidane but rumours have continued to swirl on his possible sacking.

The former midfielder has been under huge pressure to deliver at Real Madrid despite winning just about every trophy last season.

Madrid have failed to build on their previous campaign’s performance as a reinvigorated Barcelona side run away with the La Liga title.

There are concerns that Real may not even qualify for the Champions League next season and should that happen, they may lose a host of their stars.

Either way, perhaps Mourinho’s history with Raphael Varane is enough to convince him to join Old Trafford but fans will have to wait until the summer to find out.
