Manchester United have been bizarrely linked with Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere and are favourites to sign him in the summer transfer window.
The England international’s contract runs out at the end of the season and Jose Mourinho is said to be interested in securing his services.
It appears as though Wilshere’s consistent injury problems has not put off the Portuguese manager from signing him on a free transfer.
The midfielder has managed to put his recent troubles behind him and force his way back into Arsene Wenger’s starting XI.
However, it seems as though it hasn’t been enough to convince the Frenchman to give his player a contract extension and now Mourinho is ready to pounce.
According to Daily Star, BetStars spokesman Ian Marmion said: “Manchester United could make a shock swoop for the Arsenal midfielder as a long-term successor for Michael Carrick in the centre of the park at Old Trafford.
“The Red Devils can be backed at 8/1 to become the England international’s next club.”
Jose does have a potentially disastrous upcoming summer transfer window, a time when he wished to invest in reinforcing the club’s defence.
The Red Devils have what can possibly turn into a real lack of midfielders when the next window comes around as Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini‘s futures are all in the air.
This would leave the club with only Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba as the two senior midfielders which could prove tricky, particularly since there are rumours the former Real Madrid boss hopes to play with a three man midfield next season.
Carrick is set to retire this season whilst Fellaini has reportedly agreed a move to Turkey and Herrera has been heavily linked with AC Milan.
The Spaniard could potentially remain but given his inability to keep up his high standard of performances last season, he may be moved on.
