Man City ready summer swoop for Borussia Dortmund star

As per a number of reports in the English media this afternoon, runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City are preparing an offer for Borussia Dortmund star Julian Weigl this summer.

World-class talent

Weigl, a 22-year-old deep-lying midfielder, has been at the Westfalenstadion since 2015, when he joined Dortmund from fellow German outfit 1860 Munich.

Despite his tender years, he has gone on to establish himself as an absolute mainstay in the first team setup of BVB over the last couple of seasons, with his stellar showings in the middle of the park having also enabled Weigl to rack up 5 appearances for the German national team.

The techincally-gifted starlet has long been touted as one of the most gifted young midfielders in world football, with his splendid touch, calm on the ball and pinpoint passing having led a number of Europe’s top sides to express an interest in his services.

Suitors

The likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Barcelona and Bayern Munich have been linked with moves for Weigl in the past, but, as per growing reports in England this afternoon, it is Manchester City who look to have moved to the front of the queue for the talented youngster.

With Fernandinho set to turn 33 this summer, Citizens’ boss Pep Guardiola is said to be on the lookout for holding-midfield additions, with Weigl towards the top of the Spanish tactician’s wishlist.

However, the German will not come cheap, with Borussia Dortmund reportedly not ready to entertain offers of any less than £40 million.
