Local school district notifies community of possible threat

BERLIN, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A voice message was sent out by the Berlin Central School District has put many parents in the community on edge.

In the message, it describes a possible threat and increased patrols within the district. The contents of the message includes:

“Good evening, this is the Berlin Central School District calling with an important message. This afternoon we received a possible threat to the middle and high school. The police were immediately notified and responded to the school. You may notice an increased police presence around the community and the schools tomorrow.”

It states that this is all a precaution. However, parents such as Cassandra Southard are concerned. She is happy they notified her, but she is still alarmed and wants more answers.

“I was scared. I wanted to know exactly what was going on. I really didn’t know what to think. I didn’t know how bad the threat was. My immediate thought was I’m keeping my kid home, I’m not going to risk anything,” Southard said.

NEWS10 ABC reached out to the district and the sheriff’s office, but have not heard back at this time.
