Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp changes his mind on Roma’s Alisson

Great news for Loris Karius!

The much maligned German goalkeeper Loris Karius has emerged as Liverpool’s number one in recent weeks.

Simon Mignolet’s last game for Liverpool came in the 3-2 FA Cup home defeat to West Brom and there is now little doubt who is first choice at Anfield.

Karius has kept more clean sheets in the Champions League this season than any other goalkeeper.

And, increasingly, Karius is putting in some fine displays for Liverpool.

On Friday, there is great news for Loris Karius, as it emerges that the form of the former Mainz goalkeeper has convinced Jurgen Klopp he doesn’t need a goalkeeper in the summer.

Bad news for Alisson…

For many months now, the most likely goalkeeping solution for Liverpool was Roma custodian Alisson.

The Brazilian has been in sensational form for Roma, and is first choice for his country.

Considering how well Ederson has played for Manchester City since arriving in the summer, Alisson is clearly a talented stopper.

However, with Roma having already sold Mo Salah to Liverpool on the cheap last summer, they will not let Alisson go for cheap.

And, according to Paul Joyce in The Times, Alisson’s increasing price tag and Karius’ fine form means Liverpool won’t move for a goalkeeper in the summer.

Simon Mignolet set for Liverpool exit

Joyce writes: “Alisson had emerged as a potential target for Jürgen Klopp, with Simon Mignolet set to leave Anfield in the summer having lost his place in the starting line-up…

The other factor in Liverpool withdrawing their interest in Alisson has been Klopp’s decision to throw his support behind Karius… there is an opportunity now for the 24-year-old to prove to Klopp that he does not need to recruit a new No 1.”

After smashing Porto 5-0, Loris Karius bagged a picture with legendary Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

Liverpool are not in action again until they face West Ham in the Premier League on February 24, 2018.
