Jose Mourinho discusses team selection ahead of Huddersfield clash

Jose Mourinho has insisted he will field a full-strength team for Manchester United’s visit to Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday.

Man United overcame David Wagner’s men at Old Trafford two weeks ago, with Alexis Sanchez scoring his first goal for the club, but suffered defeat at the Kirklees Stadium in October.

Some have expected Mourinho to rest key players at Huddersfield ahead of crucial meetings with Sevilla and Chelsea next week, but the 55-year-old made it clear at his press conference that he wouldn’t take any liberties on Saturday.

“We want to go to the quarter-finals so we go with a serious approach,” he said.

“I have more Premier Leagues and League Cups so, of course, I’d like more [FA Cups] but I’m not thinking about myself. I’m thinking about the club and the fans.”

Mourinho will not necessarily field his best XI – although whether he knows what that is remains a matter of debate – and could give rests to the likes of Nemanja Matic, Romelu Lukaku and Antonio Valencia.

But supporters can nonetheless expect an experienced side as the 55-year-old looks to secure a place in the quarter finals – the stage where he was knocked out by Chelsea last year.

The likes of Michael Carrick, Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof and Marcos Rojo could receive chances to impress having been deprived of starts in recent times, while Mourinho has already confirmed that Paul Pogba, following a week of intense prattle surrounding his position, will start the game.
