Gov. Cuomo: ‘We did something on gun control’

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is speaking out on gun control following a mass shooting at a Florida High School on Wednesday.

During an interview with Jim Sciutto, Gov. Cuomo touted the passage of the NY SAFE Act following the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012.

“I understand the frustration of the American people. It’s over and over and over again,” Gov. Cuomo said. “We passed something called the SAFE ACT which is basically common sense gun control. We have guns that are extraordinary dangerous and not worth the risk. Why have AR-15? You don’t hunt with it, you don’t shoot birds with it. That’s what our law [the SAFE ACT] did in New York.”

Nikolas Cruz, 19, is accused of killing 17 people and injuring more than a dozen others on the grounds of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Police say during interviews, Cruz confessed to the attack.

A judge remanded Cruz to jail following his arriangment hearing on Thursday.
