Pundit Danny Higginbotham has suggested that Jose Mourinho is misusing Manchester United’s Paul Pogba, agreeing with several other critics.
Many pundits and fans alike feel that the Portuguese manager has failed to get the best out of the Frenchman due to limiting his ability on the pitch.
Pogba has often played in a two man midfield for United which has forced him to keep an eye on his defensive responsibilities for the team.
Mourinho is reported to believe that his player should be capable of fulfilling any role that is asked to be due to the player’s ability.
Higginbotham though refuses to believe that Jose and the Red Devils are going to get anything out of Paul if he plays in his current role.
According to Caught Offside, Danny wrote in the Sun: “Paul Pogba has come in for some stick lately for his lack of defensive nous. But I think that is missing the point.
“You can’t expect Pogba to be trying to influence the game at the danger end and then get back and stop a counter-attack.”
Many supporters have called for the club to implement a 4-3-3 formation in order to see Paul Pogba return to his best form as he did at Juventus.
The case for a defensive midfielder to be installed into the team instead of an attacking one appears to make sense as it would provide additional cover for Manchester United’s suspect defence.
While Jose Mourinho’s men have one of the better defensive records in the league, most fans acknowledge that a lot of that has to do with star goalkeeper David de Gea rather than the backline.
United also experienced temporary success with Louis Van Gaal when he used the 4-3-3 formation which saw the club beat Tottenham, Manchester City and Liverpool with ease.
