Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has claimed that Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford may have to leave the club in search for first team football.
Alexis Sanchez’s arrival from the Gunners in January sparked a debate on what the move could mean for United’s youngsters.
Anthony Martial and Rashford in particular have been the ones who the press are seemingly concerned about given the position they share.
Both players play in Sanchez’s preferred left wing position and some people have claimed he will derail their development.
Henry appears to be on board with that assessment and thinks there may come a time for Marcus to reconsider his position at the club.
According to Goal, Thierry said on Sky Sports: “One of the most important things for me is that you have to play. You cannot be on the bench and missing games, missing learning about the game and stopping that momentum, and an example is Rashford.
“Michael Owen had the opportunity to back up what he did the year before because he played, and he played, and he played, and he played – and I can give you more examples.
“But Rashford at times could not capitalise on what he did from that year [after his debut], because sometimes he is playing on the right, [sometimes] on the left.
“Leave is a strong word. Obviously being from there, he wants to play for United. But he has to play and it is becoming even more difficult for him since Sanchez has arrived.
“I think at the end of the season, he is maybe going to have a thinking day of ‘do I stay?’”
Thierry Henry as well as the other pundits or critics’ assessment of the situation seems to be a little unfounded given how things actually are.
Anthony’s game time has not decreased at all since the Chileans arrival to the club whilst Marcus Rashford missed, for the first time this season, the Red Devils’ match squad due to injury and not Alexis Sanchez.
The Englishman has been heavily involved with Manchester United this season just as he had been last seen with Jose Mourinho showing him preferential treatment.
Perhaps the reason why some people are concerned is due to Sanchez’s arrival coinciding with Rashford’s poor form which has seen him drop to the bench.
In fact, it’s Anthony Martial who has overtaken the academy product due to his own good form that allowed him to win the January player of the month for Manchester United.
