STRATFORD, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A local man has been convicted on two counts of felony animal cruelty after 22 dogs were found in deplorable condition at his home.

Bentley Valdez will serve a maximum two-year prison sentence. He will also serve one year in jail after being convicted of 15 counts of failure to provide sustenance and care to the dogs.

He will be sentenced on April 25.

Back in April 2017, officers were called to Valdez’s home in Stratford. When they arrived, they found nine dead French Mastiffs.

Other dead Mastiffs were found scattered around the home.

In addition to the nine dead dogs, 12 others were found alive.

Police found that none of the dogs had food or water in their pens.

The dogs that were still alive were turned over to the James A. Brennan Humane Society. Since then, each dog has been adopted and found happy homes.
