ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The head of the Republican Party here in New York has officially filed a complaint against New York Governor Andrew Cuomo alleging that the governor colluded with Joseph Percoco who is on trial for corruption charges.

Joseph Percoco is currently standing trial in New York City for allegedly taking bribes in return for government contracts. Percoco is known to be a close aid and friend to Gov. Cuomo who has not had any charges filed against him. However, the Republican Party Chair Ed Cox believes that there is more than just corruption at play.

“You do not let a government office be used for personal business or for political business,” Cox said.

According to evidence presented at the Percoco trial, Percoco used the executive chamber’s Manhattan offices more than 60 times when he was running the Governor’s re-election campaign in 2014. Current state law does not allow for government offices to be used to run political campaigns.

“The fact that he was sitting in that office doing that is a crime under the state’s penal law.”

Cox also believes that Percoco was making some of his alleged illegal calls and deals while just inches from the Governor in the same office.

“There is no way that he could have not been aware, that Joe Percoco was there,” Cox said. “That is criminal activity to let someone use a government office for political purposes.”

Cox filed his complaint with the state Joint Commission on Public Ethics and with the Manhattan District Attorney.
