Manchester United have reportedly named their price for Arsenal target Chris Smalling who is set to leave the club in the next transfer window.
Rumours have been circulating since the club’s loss to Newcastle in which the Englishman played quite a huge negative role in.
Smalling conceded a free-kick by diving, from which the Magpies managed to score the only goal of the game, frustrating fans and reportedly Jose Mourinho too.
Apparently it upset the Portuguese manager so much that he decided to move the centre-back on right then and there with the London club being linked ever since.
Arsene Wenger has publicly stated his desire to reinforce defensively but whether his target is the former Fulham man or not is yet to be seen.
According to Metro, the Daily Star report that the Red Devils have asked for £25m from the Gunners in order to secure Chris’ transfer in the summer.
The quoted number represents good value since he’s rated at £16m according to Transfermarkt and given that United bought him for pocket change.
The money could then be reinvested in the defence once more as it’s clear that it desperately needs some reinvigorating to say the least.
As well as some of the players have played at times, the Red Devils still feature two former wingers as full-backs in Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia and two central defenders that never truly fulfilled their potential in Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.
For a top club like Manchester United’s it’s quite unacceptable and what makes it worse is that there have been investments who haven’t taken over yet such as Luke Shaw, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof and even Matteo Darmian.
