Angel Di Maria returns to Madrid

Real Madrid face PSG tonight in the Champions league which sees Angel Di Maria return to the Bernabeu for the first time since leaving Los Blancos in 2014.

The Argentinian winger joined Manchester United after a successful season in Madrid in which Real won the Champions League.

During the 2013/14 season, his last in Spain, Di Maria scored 11 goals and provided 26 assists to his teammates.

Di Maria was actually named the man of the match in the final that year, which Real won 4-1 against their Madrid rivals Atletico.

The Argentinian has been extremely impressive in recent weeks and the likes of Neymar, Mbpappe and Cavani have all been in his shadow due to his stunning form.

In 2018 alone, Di Maria has scored 9 goals and registered 6 assists.

Today, on Di Maria’s 30th birthday, he has the opportunity to make Real Madrid regret letting him go.

“The only club I couldn’t play for is Newell’s Old Boys because I am a fan of Rosario Central”

Di Maria explained that he would never play for Newell’s Old Boys because he grew up at Rosario Central.

However, the Argentinian did say:

“Frankly, I wouldn’t have a problem to play at Barca, to the contrary.”

“My relationship with Madrid is finished because my cycle there ended”

Vert few players play for both Real Madrid and Barcelona and those who do, are often despised by their former club.

Di Maria, who was a fan favourite with the Madrid faithful surely won’t get such a great reception after these quotes.

Real Madrid are in the middle of an abysmal season and despite being the Champions League holders, are not the favourites in this last 16 tie.
