Manchester United receive Alex Sandro transfer update

Manchester United target Alex Sandro has made it clear that he was focused on working hard at Juventus amid speculation of a potential move to Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho pin-pointed the need for a left-back over the summer and reportedly targeted Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose.

Luke Shaw‘s recent resurgence in that role has led to Mourinho cooling his interest in a left-back but reports have claimed that the 55-year-old still sees the Brazilian as his primary summer target.

Speaking soon after scoring the winner against Torino on Sunday, Sandro was quick to dismiss talk of what would happen in the summer.

“I have always remained focused on my work and my only thought has always been Juventus, with whom I still have two years of contract,” he said.

“I feel really good and I am satisfied with my condition today.

“My goal is first of all to win everything with Juventus. Then the World Cup will come and I hope to deserve a call in the Seleçao by doing well here.”

Shaw’s impressive run of form over December gave Mourinho the license to explore options further up the pitch, bringing in Alexis Sanchez for the price of Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a truly superb deal.

But to do the same in the summer would be nothing short of suicidal. United’s situation at full-back, after all, remains decidedly sticky: Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia are approaching the twilight stage of their careers, while Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian are both not up to scratch and let to leave in June.

If Sandro really is Mourinho’s primary option, one thing is for sure: more reinforcements have to follow him to Old Trafford in the summer.
