Roberto Martinez confirms Tottenham supporters’ Toby Alderweireld fears

Belgian national team manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed Spurs supporters’ fears that Toby Alderweirled is currently having “contract problems” with the club, he told Belgian media outlet DH.

Martinez also spoke about his satisfaction over the way Tottenham have handled the player’s situation by slowly bedding him back into the side after returning from a long-term injury.

The central-defender was sidelined for a few months having damaged his hamstring in Tottenham’s 3-1 win at Wembley back in November of last year.

The former Everton manager said:

“I have recently had a good conversation with Toby Alderweireld.

I’m happy that Spurs take their time and don’t rush him back.

But of course Toby would have liked to have played against Juventus.

His situation will need time.

He has some contract problems, but I do not expect issues.”

Martinez added:

“Toby has become one of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League.

It’s normal that his situation draws a lot of attention, certainly when he’s nearing the end of his contract.

But I think that he’ll end this season in top shape.”

Rochdale 2-2 Tottenham

Mauricio Pochettino’s wholesale change, in the end, came back to haunt him, as Steve Davies’ 92nd-minute strike took this FA Cup tie to a replay at Wembley.

Rochdale’s cup-run looked to be over as Harry Kane cruelly dispatched from the spot two minutes from time, only for Davies to produced a fairytale ending at Spotland.

Tottenham made 11 changes from the side that drew with Juventus in Turin on Tuesday and it showed, as they produced a disjointed performance at Spotland.

Ian Henderson had originally handed the League One side the lead on the stroke of half-time before Lucas Moura equalised on his first start for the club.

Alderweireld’s performance was very against the lower league strugglers will come as a worry to Pochettino and his staff with the Belgian looking well of the pace, even against weaker opposition.
