Arsenal scout Napoli duo ahead of this summer

Arsenal have sent scouts to watch Napoli duo Kalidou Koulibaly and Lorenzo Insigne, according to Italian source CalcioMercato.

Scouting mission

The Gunners are understood to have sent scouts to watch both players in action for the Italian giants against RB Leipzig in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Naples-based club were on the end of a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the German side, as their woes in Europe continue.

Both Koulibaly and Insigne have impressed for Napoli this season, helping their side to lead the way in Serie A with just 14 fixtures remaining.

Insigne targeted

After acquiring the services of both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in January, Arsene Wenger is hoping to add yet another attacker.

The French manager is keen on adding Italian forward Insigne to his front-line, however, Arsenal are expected to be rivalled for his signature by Atletico Madrid.

The 26-year-old is enjoying one of the best campaigns of his career so far, producing a combined total of 18 goals and assists in 33 appearances this season in all competitions.

Insigne is believed to be a long-term transfer target for Wenger and this summer he is desperate of finally bringing the player to the Emirates.

However, any deal for the player will be difficult to compete, with Insigne having only just signed a new contract with Napoli last year until 2022.

Defensive solution?

Arsenal believe that Napoli’s central defender Koulibaly will the man to help to resolve their defensive frailties, as they plan to move for the player this summer.

The Senegalese defender has been a stonewall figure at the back for the Italian league leaders this season and has been attracting the interest of plenty of Europe’s top clubs

Wenger has already admitted that he regrets not having moved for a defensive option in January:

“Yes, because our defensive numbers are not good enough and that’s where we needed some possible strengthening as well.

I believe we have to find an internal solution to our defensive problems, and that means everyone putting more effort in.”
