What about Liverpool & Tottenham? Garth Crooks on Sergio Aguero

BBC team of the week

Every Monday on the BBC website, Garth Crooks names his Premier League team of the week.

Crooks is one of the characters who seems to attract hate like a magnet.

The BBC pundit often doesn’t help himself with his outlandish and sometimes cartoonish comments.

This Monday Crooks has wound up fans of Liverpool and Tottenham with his love-in for Sergio Aguero.

Man City 5 – Leicester 1

As if it was ever in doubt, gameweek 27 was the weekend that Man City won the Premier League title.

Leicester were beaten 5-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.

Raheem Sterling scored after three minutes, before Sergio Aguero chipped in with a four-goal haul against the Foxes.

On Sunday, Newcastle then beat Man United 1-0 to leave Jose Mourinho’s men 16 points behind the Sky Blues.

Sergio Aguero should be ‘Footballer of the Year’

According to Crooks, Aguero should be crowned the Premier League’s Footballer of the Year.

Really? Has Aguero even been that good for City this season?

Had Gabriel Jesus have stayed fit, would Aguero even be in the Man City team?

Crooks nevertheless felt compelled to write the following:

If this man does not win Footballer of the Year then there is something very wrong with the way we reward our best players.

Granted we have De Bruyne to consider, and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, and of course Kane will feature in the final line-up. But none of the aforementioned have been as consistent over the past five years as Sergio Aguero.

Liverpool & Tottenham backlash

Really Garth Crooks?!

Most believe that Kevin De Bruyne is the frontrunner for the Footballer of the Year award this season.

If he doesn’t win it, Liverpool’s Salah is surely an alternative for the top prize.

While Tottenham striker Harry Kane also has a great claim to the award as he looks to finish the season as the EPL’s top scorer.
