Staying The rumours surrounding a possible move to Real Madrid have never gone away for Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, and as he shows more and more of his talent, they seem to come back with a vengeance. However, in a big boost for Manchester United, the player has come out and made it clear he is happy – and does not wish to leave the club he has been at for seven years – and that being a key member of the dressing room is important to him – something Jose Mourinho may take into account when naming his next captain once Michael Carrick retires come the summer. He spoke with the Daily Star Sunday, saying: “I don’t think it’s ever good to discuss the future or what may happen. “Only the present, feeling well, playing well and helping United is important.” R
David de Gea has expressed his delight at seeing Eric Bailly make a return to action for Manchester United against Huddersfield Town. The Ivorian has been sidelined since November with ankle ligament damage and underwent surgery in December. He was included in the squad for the first time since a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea during the closing stages of a comfortable 2-0 win over David Wagner’s men. And De Gea, who was handed a rest on Saturday, took to social media to hail the return of such an important player. Is back! @ericbailly24 — David de Gea (@D_DeGea) February 17, 2018 At a time when the ship needs to be steadied ahead of crucial games on both a domestic and continental front, Bailly’s return will be salutary. EAST ST. LOUIS - The Belleville Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul celebrated the renovation of its outreach ministry in East St. Louis Saturday. The charity provides a place for those in need to share company and enjoy a hot meal. “We serve a new meal 6 days a week,” said Executive Director Patricia Hogrebe. “We open at 10:30 in the morning because people are hungry and we serve lunch for three hours.” The renovations were completed in large part due to various labor organizations lending a helping hand. “They were right there when we needed them,” said Hogrebe. Otis Williams, Jr. was one of the clients who attended Saturday’s open house. He said without the ministry he would likely have nowhere to turn to for help. “They try their best to help people,” he said.
Jarrett MurphyJohn Mollenkopf is a distinguished professor of political science and sociology and the director of the Urban Research Center at the CUNY Graduate Center. “New York City politics is fascinating not only because it binds many interests together in intimate conflict,” John Mollenkopf wrote in his 1994 book A Phoenix in the Ashes, “but because the stakes are so high.” Mayor de Blasio’s state of the city address on Tuesday night indicated he felt the same way. As he introduced his 10-point plan to reinvigorate democratic participation in the city, the mayor said, “We better understand a proud nation our mission is one of restoration. We must re-democratize a society that is losing its way.” Mollenkopf, a distinguished professor of politi...

To take that quintessentially American egalitarian spirit and make it come alive again, we have to be the keepers of that flame. We have to ask ourselves, if not here, where? We, in fact, have to be the antidote to the sickness that is gripping our nation.” –Mayor de Blasio, in his 2018 state of the city address * * * * Mayor de Blasio on Tuesday night committed his administration to saving democracy in New York City, announcing a 10-point plan that includes appointing a commission to amend the city c

Manchester City beat Leicester 5-1 As if it was in any doubt, last weekend was the weekend that Man City won the 2017-18 Premier League. The Sky Blues scored five times in a comfortable win over Leicester. The writing was on the wall for Leicester after just three minutes when Raheem Sterling broke the deadlock. Sergio Aguero stole the headlines going on to score foul goals. The Argentine is now up to 21 league goals: the same as Liverpool’s Mo Salah and two behind Tottenham’s Harry Kane.
