New renderings released for revamp of Underground Atlanta

A rendering of the redevelopment of Block 3 (formerly known as Kenny’s Alley) at Underground Atlanta (Courtesy S9 Architecture) WRS, the South Carolina developer behind the revamp of Underground Atlanta, has released new renderings of the four-block redevelopment, including the area known as Kenny’s Alley – or Block 3 as its now known – at the southwest corner of Central and Alabama. Featuring more than 150,000 square feet of retail, office and communal areas, construction on Block 3 began in January is expected to be complete in 12 to 14 months, according to a media release from WRS. News Briefs: Fire chief retires; BeltLine & Atlanta Opera grant; Morningside Mile

Atlanta Fire Chief Joel Baker Atlanta Fire Rescue Chief Joel Baker will official retire on Feb. 15.  During his tenure, Baker led the effort to ensure that the AFRD maintained its ISO Class 1 rating and international accreditation by the Center for Public Safety Excellence. He also led the development and management of department initiatives including the Atlanta Emergency Preparedness Institute and Citizens Fire Academy. Baker began his professional fire service career with the City of East Point Fire Department in 1986 and joined AFRD in 1988. First Deputy Chief Randall Slaughter will serve as Interim Fire Chief.
