PSG linked with surprise move for Manchester United defender

As per a report from the Sun this evening, Ligue 1 powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain are considering a summer move for Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo.

English stint

Rojo, a versatile Argentinian international who can play either at centre-back or full-back, has been on the books of Manchester United since 2014, when he joined the Premier League giants from Portuguese outfit Sporting CP.

Rojo has since enjoyed an up-and-down spell at Old Trafford, but had emerged as one of the club’ most consistent performers last season before an ACL injury suffered during a Europa League clash with Anderlecht last April saw the 27-year-old ruled out until late last year.

The South American has since managed 6 Premier League starts, though Jose Mourinho has regularly opted for the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof ahead of Rojo.

On the move?

With Eric Bailly’s return to first-team action set to provide further competition at the heart of Manchester United’s defence, and the board at Old Trafford reportedly growing increasingly frustrated with Rojo’s insistence on putting off signing a new deal with the club, rumours over recent weeks have suggested that the 54-time capped Albiceleste international could be set for a departure from the Premier League this summer.

And, as per the aforementioned report from the Sun, one club keen to take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding Rojo’s future in Manchester are French giants PSG, with the capital outfit said to be readying an offer of around £30 million for the South American stopper.
