Jose Mourinho makes Real Madrid man his main target for summer transfer window

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos is reportedly Manchester United’s main midfield target this summer.

Manager Jose Mourinho is keen to bring in another player in the centre of the park to play alongside Serbian Nemanja Matic, signed from Premier League champions Chelsea last summer for around £40m, and Paul Pogba, who Man United broke the world record transfer fee to sign from Juventus in 2016.

German international Kroos is Mourinho’s main target, though he may look to more than one player if club captain Michael Carrick does indeed retire at the end of the campaign and Maroaune Fellaini leaves the club on a free transfer, with Turkish giants Galatasaray heavily linked.

The Independent suggest Kroos is the man Mourinho wants to play between Matic on the right and Pogba on the left of midfield in a three-man formation.

Recent reports suggested that Pogba has had a disagreemnt with Mourinho over where his best position is in the side. His best performances have come on the left-side of a midfield three, and thus a new midfieldeer to allow him to take up that role would be fantastic.

Spaniard Ander Herrera doesn’t have the ability, it appears, to be that player.

Kroos is an unlikely signing, though. He has four years remaining on his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu and Real Madrid are extraordinarily unlikely to let him sign for United without getting goalkeeper David de Gea, one of their main targets, in return.

Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Weigl is also a target for United and Mourinho according to the Independent, though Kroos is very much the priority.
