Pundit urges Toby Alderweireld against joining Man United

Former Venezuela forward and ESPN pundit Alejandro Moreno has warned Toby Alderweireld against opting for a Manchester United move in the summer. The Belgian played a central role in the past two Premier League campaigns for Tottenham Hotspur but injuries and disagreements with manager Mauricio Pochettino, who didn’t include him in the squad to face Juventus, has reduced him to just ten appearances this term. His strained relationship with the Spurs boss along with Jose Mourinho’s intention to offload both Phil Jones and Chris Smalling in the summer has led to talk of a possible Old Trafford move. But Moreno has noted that jumping ship to join up with Mourinho would be a bad move for Alderweireld. “Some chance (of it happening), I just don’t know. I don’t think it’s happen

Ostersunds 0-3 Arsenal Arsenal beat Swedish minnows Ostersunds in the Europa League on Thursday night. The Gunners put on a seriously professional performance in Sweden on a freezing cold night as goals from Nacho Monreal, Mesut Ozil and and own goal from Sotirios Papagiannopoulos sealed the victory for the away side. Arsenal’s away form has been diabolical this season and Thursday’s win was only Arsenal’s 5th away win of the season. The Gunners have been woeful away from home but were still expected to beat an Ostersunds side playing in their first ever knockout match in European competition. Ainsley Maitland-Niles Arsenal were dominant in Sweden and finished the match with 61% possession. Ainsley Maitland-Niles started his twelfth match of the season and impress...

On This Day in Football: Stoke keeper makes history, France begin record run - originally posted on Sportslens.com On this day in 1952, Stoke City goalkeeper Dennis Herod achieved one of the bravest yet bizarre feats in English football. Stoke travelled to Villa Park to play Aston Villa in a league tie in front of 40,000 fans. The Potters were soon 2-0 up inside the first half an hour but Stoke goalkeeper Dennis Herod suffered an unjury resulting in a broken arm as Villa pulled one goal back right before the break.  In an era were substitutes were still an alien concept, an injured player had two options – either get off the pitch to receive treatment or continue with the game if the injury is not that serious. So Herod was left on the pitch for ‘nuisance value’. He...

Manchester United have lost their last two away games and Jose Mourinho, with his side’s trip to Sevilla just around the corner, will know that victory away at Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup fifth round is paramount. Defeats to Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United were deserved and have placed the microscope on Mourinho’s men as the crucial closing stage of the season approaches. The 55-year-old has been given a boost by the return of Marcus Rashford, while Eric Bailly is set to resume training on Friday. And with that in mind, here is Sam’s predicted XI for Saturday’s meeting with David Wagner’s men. Batshuayi scores again Michy Batshuayi completed his loan move to Dortmund from Chelsea on deadline day in a bizarre deal which saw Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sign for Arsenal and Olivier Giroud move across London from the EmIrates to Stamford Bridge. Batshuayi has been brought in by Peter Stöger to replace Aubameyang and so far, he has done exactly that. Aubameyang scored 22 goals for Dortmund this season before heading to North London. Batshuayi has scored 5 goals in 3 matches for BVB so far since arriving in January. Even though the deal will only keep Batshuayi in Dortmund for another few months, it has already looked like an excellent piece of business. The 24 year old scored a 91st minute winner in Dortmund’s Europa League fixture against Atalanta on Thursday night and is al
