This Is How Lydia’s Lechon Flourished From A Street Stall Into A Famous Dining Chain

The Redemptorist street near the National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, or more commonly known as Baclaran Church, is known for a lot of things. Tiange stores, vendors’ stalls, jeepneys, and the occasional traffic jam. However, not known to many is that the century-old road brought forth one of the most prominent brands in Filipino cuisine—Lydia’s Lechon. Having served countless people, multiple hotels, and even the First Lady, the once modest stall now has over 28 branches across the nation. This is no small feat for Lydia de Roca who hailed from a humble beginning and inch by inch built her empire serving world-class delicacies. Now, Lydia’s name has become synonymous with the Filipino roasted pig—a centerpiece of every celebration, party, and reunion. An Early Education Image

Weekend Notes: Back From Costa Rica & Cures for the Common Cold

photo by @onahazymorning Happy weekend, friends! Adam and I got back from Costa Rica last week, and it was exactly the kind of trip we both needed to get totally rejuvenated. The perfect mix of adventure (kayaking, surfing, and so much hiking!) and relaxation (beach time, amazing Latin American food, and so much rosé!), Costa Rica is on my new list of places I hope to return to again and again. Back in Austin, I’ve finally come down with this cold-virus thing that so many people I know have had. I woke up this morning super congested with tons of pressure in my head, and I’m planning to spend this day hanging with the kids at home and getting lots of rest. I’ve got my ginger-lemon-herb tea boiling away on the stove and ingredients for chicken soup read to go for later, b

Does It Really Matter If Uber Leaves Malaysia?

There have been rumours of Uber planning to sell off its Malaysian business to rivals Grab in the wake of its poor performance in the SEA region. These rumours have appeared just after Uber received funding from Japanese conglomerate Softbank, who also has a stake in Grab. In the event that Uber departs Malaysia, Grab would appear to become the sole dominant ride-sharing service in the country, although there have been reports of other ride-sharing services such as Lyft and Go-Jek entering Malaysia. Uber’s potential departure may not bode well for Malaysians in the short-term, but other alternatives may present themselves equally viable as time progresses. Rumours have been rife in recent weeks of Uber potentially selling off its Malaysian operations to direct competitors Grab. Whi...

I stand by the fact that Valentine’s Day is my favorite holiday, and this year, I hosted a girls-only gathering for the books. Romance novels are such a big part of our country’s literary culture, yet I don’t know many women who regularly read the genre. So with the most romantic day of the year upon us, I thought I’d look past the goofy book covers to uncover what the fuss is all about. Better yet, I thought I’d make a party of it! The team came over and joined me for one of the most fun, laugh-filled and sweets-filled afternoons. photography by Kristen Kilpatrick ...see the slideshow here The post How to Host a Romance Novel Book Swap appeared first on Camille Styles.

They definitely did not access water as easily as we do nowadays, but, for sure, they had their ways of bathing. Hygiene should be a vital part of the existence of human beings. Being unclean causes a lot of problems and diseases that can lead to death altogether. Over and beyond, some religious rituals and social standards obligated people to wash before mixing with the community. Let us take you in a quick dive into what the history embraces regarding the bathing facts, and learn how people used to bath long before there were bathtubs.  THE BEGINNING OF BATHING  In the past, people were not that aware of the importance of showering. We usually serve up jobs here every month. This time around though, because we’re still in one of the peak hiring seasons of the year we’re going to curate a list of companies with a lot of openings for people to sign up in—especially those with multinational or career-expansion dreams. These are what Jobstreet calls some of their top employers—companies that hire the highest number of employees on their platform. Similarly, the number of jobs offered per company is pretty extensive as well, so there should be something for everyone no matter their specialisation (or lack thereof). Do note that this could also mean that the companies have higher turnover rates, or that competition is steep—both during hiring, and once you’re in the company. In no particular order, some of
